Recently, in the wind power equipment sector, noise-reduction technology for yaw systems has achieved significant progress, effectively addressing the long-standing noise issue that has plagued the industry and providing residents living near wind farms with a quieter living environment.
As a critical component of wind turbine units, the yaw system is responsible for adjusting the nacelle’s orientation so that the blades remain aligned with the wind direction, thereby maximizing energy capture. However, the noise generated during its operation—especially at night—has a certain impact on the daily lives of nearby residents.
This technological breakthrough focuses on the core noise-reduction component of the yaw system. By optimizing the gear transmission structure and adopting new high-precision gears, the R&D team has reduced the impact and vibration during gear meshing, thereby minimizing noise generation at its source. At the same time, the control algorithm for the yaw drive motor has been improved, enabling smoother and more precise yaw movements and eliminating additional noise caused by frequent starts and stops as well as rapid adjustments.
After field testing, the yaw system employing the new technology reduced noise levels by 12 decibels during nighttime operations. This remarkable achievement has greatly improved the nighttime environment around wind farms, ensuring that residents are no longer disturbed by annoying noise. The widespread adoption of this technology not only enhances the environmental friendliness of wind power equipment but also provides strong support for the sustainable development of the wind energy industry, helping clean energy integrate more effectively into people’s daily lives.
