Yaw Gear Maintenance Service Case Studies
At the Yancheng Wind Power Installation Site, 33 GW87/1500 wind turbine units manufactured by Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd. have been installed. Each unit has a capacity of 1.5 megawatts, bringing the total installed capacity to 49.5 megawatts. The turbines were fully commissioned and connected to the grid on April 30, 2015, and have been in operation for seven years to date. Recent inspections revealed that the yaw hydraulic disc brakes of these wind turbines exhibit oil leakage, and oil contamination on the yaw brake discs has led to vibrations, unusual noises, and wear during the yaw braking process. A statistical analysis indicates that 20 turbines are particularly affected. If these abnormal conditions persist for an extended period, they could easily cause damage to the yaw large gear and yaw gearbox, increasing downtime and maintenance costs. Moreover, such issues pose a fire hazard and compromise the operational safety of the turbines.
In February 2023, the energy technology department conducted an on-site inspection and decided to provide specialized maintenance services for the yaw brakes of the 20 wind turbines at the Yanhu Wind Farm. As of now, the wind farm has not experienced any further malfunctions.
